For anyone listening to tonight’s BBC Radio show (and everyone else!), here’s Annie Leonard’s wonderful twenty minute film called “The Story of Stuff”. It’ll change the way you look at things. I had the privilege of interviewing Annie last week for a new documentary called Part of the Solution (movie.4000saturdays.com)

There is something very endearing about this video…
When travelling in Delhi, India about sixteen years ago I had been walking for about eight hours and my feet ached like never before. I was suffering from culture shock and overwhelmed by all the poverty I was seeing.
I sat down on the pavement feeling thoroughly sorry for myself.
In amongst the bustle of the surrounding street life I heard a scraping sound getting louder and louder. I looked up and saw a man, perched on an old metal tray, with no legs and tiny bandaged stumps for arms. He was pushing himself along slowly and coming towards me. I watched him pass infront of me and continue his journey and then I looked down at my feet.
He taught me an really important lesson in life, that if your feet ache, they are just reminding you to be grateful you have them. I always remember this amazing man, especially when I think I have a problem or issue in my life.
Then today I was sent this video, which reaffirmed this sense of gratitude I have for my life. I really encourage you to watch it.
Today I watch a video by a guy called Matthew Harding. Some of you may have heard of him as his original video back in 2006 was one of the most popular videos on You Tube (and named as his “favourite You Tube posts of all time” by the site’s Founder).
In a nutshell, Matthew travels around the world and dances! In his latest video, he has “a cast of thousands” and every time I watch it, it simply brings a smile to my face. It’s the kind of thing you should watch with your kids (and they’ll want to see it again and again). It’s also fun to look at different people dancing each time you watch it.
One post under this video said this: “My son died in iraq 7 weeks ago, and this video allowed me to sleep through the night for the first time”.
Simply, pure fun which makes the soul dance. For me, the real message is just how universal dance is. It doesn’t matter what colour, language, size or shape you are. Imagine what a different wordl the place woudl be if we’d only ever learnt to communiction through dance. As long as you can “shake your booty” preferably with a great big grin on your face, you can’t help but feel good.
Well done Matthew – We need more people like you in this world.
Be prepared to smile…

Whenever I see something truely exceptional, I’m excited to share it with the world.
The Story of Stuff is a wonderful take on mass consumption and what we can do about it. I’ll be posting up all seven parts, starting today with the Intro:
